Gleason Patterns (or Gleason Grades)
Donald F Gleason (1920-2008) described 5 Gleason patterns (or grades), abbreviated GP or GG. These grades are based only on the glandular architecture of adenocarcinoma. The less well preserved glands, the higher is the grade.
GP 1 is no longer used and most pathologists also avoid GP 2, at least on needle biopsies.
